Read By The Author

edit SideBar

You will need to record copyright information. There is no particular format for this. Some things you should always include are:

References to the printed book

  • Title
  • Author
  • Publisher (book)
  • Copyright (book)

References to the audiobook

  • Publisher (audiobook)
  • Copyright (audiobook)
  • Narrator. You can repeat your name “read by (your name)” or say “read by the author”.
  • A transition - Either a pause or saying something like “And now, (title of your book).

If you have a publisher, they will probably provide you with text to read. They often have a standard lead-in for all their books.

If you are self-publishing your audiobook:

  • Start by listening to how other audiobooks handle copyrights, and model your format after one that appeals to you. Type it out word for word as you want to record it. Double check the dates and publisher names.
  • Consider using another voice. Have someone else to do the introductory material. This second voice is often used to identify the start of each of the physical units of the formatted recording (“My book, disc seven”). Another place for the second voice is at the very end of the recording (see below).
